Our first full day in Bali was spent walking around and learning about the neighborhood in Candidasa.
Mild morning sun never existed during our stay in Bali. As much as I enjoyed all kinds of fresh tropical fruits every morning, beautiful wild flowers everywhere, and of course delicious Indonesian/ Balinese food, I disliked the strong heat and dense humidity that I could never get used to.
Candidasa is a small seaside town in eastern Bali where the tourism started booming in the early 80’s. Although it’s not as touristy as Kuta or Ubud, the major business still seems to be tourism. There was not even a single time we could walk on the street without being stopped and asked by people if we need a driver, if not today tomorrow even, or if we want to snorkel, or if we want to eat at their restaurants.
We started our day with a simple breakfast at the resort then headed out to walk around the town with our cameras. It took us only about a half an hour to reach to the other end of the town but after that walk we had to take a break for lunch and drinks because of the heat and humidity.
The heat was becoming even more unbearable in the later afternoon so we went back to the resort and spent it in the pool. Drinking happy hour cocktails in the pool was something I haven’t tried before and I really enjoyed it.
Although it didn’t have a nice sandy beach, our resort was right on the ocean and had impressive sunsets everyday. As we always do, John and I went out to the water and took some photos of the beautiful sunset and of each other until it became too dark.
